This course is for introducing translators to the field of Japanese to English patent translation. It starts with the basics, builds up to dealing with many aspects of patent translation, and culminates with the translator actually translating a patent specification. There are many examples and activities for the translator to perform along the way, including drag and drop exercises, various types of questions such as multiple choice and fill-in-the-gap exercises, and many others. The course is intended to take a beginner to the point where they can confidently translate a patent specification, but may also prove useful for the more experienced translator that may wish to "fill in the gaps" they may have concerning some of the finer aspects of patent translation. Two sample claim translations and the sample patent translation will be reviewed by your course tutor. You are of course free to ask questions to the course tutor at any time during the course.
